Growing into your brand

Here’s a question: Does your website represent your business or organisation as it is at the moment?

To which you might, fairly, reply with a question yourself, “What’s my website got to do with branding?”

To which the answer is, “A great deal”.

It’s a sad reflection of the world that we live in that our credibility as business people lies more in our websites than in the way we present ourselves individually. Perhaps we need to unpack that slightly. Let’s just say that you meet someone during a networking event, you get on famously and exchange business cards. The first thing you do when you get back to the office is to check out their website, because that’s where their credibility lies. If what you see at www. doesn’t live up to the person you’ve just met, your trust and belief in what that person told you about themselves and their business is, at best, challenged.

Our credibility lies is our websites.

Let’s go back to the relationship between a website and branding. We’ve said before that our brand and our reputation are the same thing. If our credibility lies in our websites, and our branding reflects our reputation, then the importance of having an excellent website becomes obvious. So, does your website represent your business or organisation as it is at the moment?

It shouldn’t! But more on this next time…
